Kenya Ports Authority implements new containerised cargo import rules

The Kenya Ports Authority will implement stricter container import rules from December 1 this year.

Following a move by government to crack down on tax evasion and entry of sub-standard goods into Kenya, new rules for containerised cargo imports will kick in from December 1.

Under the new rule, the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) will have the sole mandate of nominating freight containers to designated container freight stations. This replaces the current arrangement where shippers and carriers of Kenya-bound cargo would endorse specific stations.
