The African Development Bank (AfDB) has agreed to fund – through various levies – a proposed new six lane highway project in Kenya.
According to a TradeMark East Africa (TMEA) news report, the highway will connect the port city of Mombasa to the outskirts of the greater Mombasa metropolitan area in Mariakani – some 40 kilometres en route to the the main highway to Nairobi.
This new section will reportedly cover about 12 kilometres of highway which has been the cause of constant complaints about congestion by drivers.
The project will also include a link to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Other funders are also being sought before a construction plan can be drawn up.
