DOUG KENNEDY has been appointed regional line representative for Global Container Lines based in Johannesburg.
The announcement coincides with an upgrade of the line's fleet ten months after the launch of the service between South Africa and East Africa in May last year.
Kennedy was previously branch manager of Rennies Ships Agency and commercial executive for GCL since its inception.
The line has brought on new, modern tonnage
with special gear suited
to East African ports, offering increased capacity
for both containers and breakbulk as well as faster turnaround at the ports.
It will maintain a 10-day frequency calling Durban, Maputo, Beira, Nacala, Dar es Salaam and Mombasa in East Africa.
Moroni in the Comores and Tanga in Tanzania have been added to the schedule.
"Volumes have picked up considerably and the service upgrade underlines our commitment to the market," Kennedy told FTW.
