J&J expands to handle growing mineral exports

The Beira-based J&J group has invested in additional facilities to handle growing volumes of bulk commodities moving through the port of Beira. “We are positive that volumes will increase through Beira this year,” says Christian Roeder, chief executive officer Mozambique of the J&J group. “The strong rand helps us, and with ongoing congestion in Dar es Salaam, Beira will increase in importance for exporters. “In fact, volumes are already increasing.” In order to meet the growing demand Independent Beira Logistics Terminals & Services (IBLTS) in Beira is extending its paved area by 20 000 sqm, adding another 4000 sqm of warehousing space. IBLTS has also invested in a container weighbridge to optimise bulk stuffing operations on site. “We mainly need the paved open space for bulk minerals such as ferrochrome ex Zimbabwe. We are very positive about this product on the Beira corridor,” says Roeder. The group also has plans to add a 2000-sqm shed dedicated to minerals such as copper and cobalt at Beira Logistics Terminals (BLT). By combining the range of services across the group J&J has also introduced a “onestop shop” for bulk exporters from Zimbabwe and elsewhere in the region. The Mozambique Vessel Agency (MVA) was one of the first to offer a full pit-to-port service utilising J&J’s trucking fleet, rail, bulk terminals and clearing and forwarding services, according to MVA’s Kanishk Jaiswal.
