IN A move to tighten up control of cargo flows in and out of the country, the Ivory Coast has introduced a Cargo Tracking Note system (CTN), also known as a BSC (Bordereau De Suivi De Cargaison).
Diamond Shipping is the nominated sub-agent in South Africa and shippers can contact its offices in Durban, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth to obtain a CTN. “This document is required for all shipments to the Ivory Coast and every bill of lading must be covered by a separate CTN,” a Diamond Shipping spokesman told FTW. “The only exception is roro cargoes, both new and second hand.
“In the case of shipments without a validated CTN shippers and receivers expose themselves to delayed delivery of the cargo by the Ivory Coast customs and to corresponding extra charges,” he said.
