The Transnet Port Terminals
(TPT) Saldanha operations
in the Western Cape
celebrated a milestone last
week when one billion tonnes
of iron ore passed through
the Saldanha Bulk Terminal
– South Africa’s main iron
ore export terminal.
“We are delighted with
the success of the terminal
that has seen a 233%
increase in cargo volumes
since it was established
in 1976,” said Robert Van
Rooyen, TPT Saldanha
terminal manager.
He pointed out that – as
part of Transnet’s seven year
Market Demand Strategy
(MDS) – R5.5 billion had
been earmarked for the
expansion of the Saldanha
Iron Ore Terminal.
