Industry waits for Aarto date

The Administrative
Adjudication of Road Traffic
Offences (Aarto) system is due
to start soon, but once again
no fixed date has yet been
announced, according to Gavin
Kelly, technical and operations
manager of the Road Freight
Association (RFA).
That, at least, is what he has
heard on the governmental
grapevine.
The latest on the RFA’s
interaction with the
department of transport (DoT)
is that answers are still awaited
from that body.
“We met with them about
three weeks ago,” said Kelly,
“and told them to finish the
tasks we had given them before
we moved forward. But we
are once again awaiting their
completion of these requests.”
So it’s more of the same,
“Aarto is imminent” but no
fixed date yet.
The big problem is that the
infrastructure – both locally at
municipal level, and nationally
– just doesn’t exist, according
to the RFA.
