India objects to DP World deal

INDIA’S GUJARAT state is opposing the DP World-P&O deal, saying it would give the Dubai port operator a 50% share of India’s container shipping volumes. In India, DP World already operates two container terminals – Kochi and Visakhapatnam; P&O operates three – Nhava Sheva (Mumbai), Chennai and Mundra. According to eyefortransport.com, critics argue that this equates to a monopoly, and have asked for government intervention to block the deal under the Monopolies & Restrictive Trade Practices Act.
