Inadequate truck stops put drivers at risk

The road freight industry has

called on government to invest

in adequate trucking rest

facilities for drivers moving

cargo across South Africa.

This comes after increased

calls for better fatigue risk

management by operating

companies as more and more

drivers are falling asleep behind

the wheel.

According to Ben

Bezuidenhout, chief business

development leader at Drive

Risk, a lack of adequate

facilities and rest stops is

compounding the problem

as many drivers report sleep

being interrupted during their

enforced rest periods.
