The human resources and freight forwarding sectors are mourning the loss of Dr Lynn Ribton-Turner who died recently.

Professionals working in the sectors said they would remember Ribton-Turner as a “highly respected” and accomplished businesswoman who was always ready to provide her distinctive insights into current trends and issues. She headed up her own recruitment agency, Ribton-Turner Management Services, based in Johannesburg.

Ribton-Turner was a registered Industrial Psychologist who had specialised in talent management, psychological assessments, executive coaching, and career guidance since 1990 when she established her own business, specialising in the global freight forwarding industry. Before starting her own firm she worked in the shipping and freight forwarding Industry in an executive position, heading up sales teams.

The SA Association of Freight Forwarders (Saaff) informed its members of her death in a recent notice.

“It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Dr Lynn Ribton-Turner from Ribton-Turner Management Services. She was highly respected in South Africa within these industries for her professionalism, integrity, and in-depth knowledge of all aspects of shipping and the freight forwarding market. Condolences go out to her family, friends, and colleagues as they navigate through this difficult time,” Saaff said.

Lee Botti & Associates director, Kim Botti, said Ribton-Turner had built a professional business and had a good reputation in the sector.

“We shared a similar ethos, working with the same candidates and clients in this niche industry. On the occasions when we bumped into each other at industry functions or at clients, we always enjoyed a pleasant and friendly exchange of mutual respect and would have a good laugh.  We were deeply saddened to hear of her passing, and send condolences to her family and friends,” Botti said.

Former FTW editor Joy Orlek said Ribton-Turner was always happy to share her knowledge of the industry.

“Lynn could always be relied upon for insightful comment and was generous with her time when approached by FTW journalists – who often tapped into her extensive pool of knowledge.”

The circumstances surrounding Ribton-Turner’s death are not known at this stage.
