High logistics costs stymie growth

Gauteng’s high logistics
costs must be addressed
in order the turn the economy
around, according to Rara Avis
Freight and Logistics MD, Judy
Everitt.
“E-tolls should be eradicated
and a “more equitable system”
implemented.
“Furthermore, delivering into
some areas in the province has
become a logistical nightmare
due to the potholes and the
ongoing crime and damage to
vehicles during strike action,”
she said.
Everitt welcomed a recent
change of local government
leadership in two of the
province’s main metros,
pointing out that a change
of policy – at all levels of
government – was needed to
redress the current imbalance
between import and export
traffic.
“We need to lessen
our dependence on raw
commodity exports and
start manufacturing valueadded
goods for export,” she
commented.
