Cape Town is the latest of the three ZacPak depots to go live with the specially tailored ZacPak Degrouping Operating System (ZDOS) this month (May). “The system allows for full transparency across the three depots and during each aspect of delivery and handling, which reduces transport turnaround time and enables insight and foresight across the supply chain,” said ZacPak Group managing director, Willie Nel. He told FTW that ZacPak would soon offer its clients an automatic report which shows when the freight arrived at the depot, where the goods were unpacked and handled, how long it took to degroup and more. “The system holds its own against competitive products and provides total transparency across the entire house/master bill process,” noted Nel. “We have also created a freight availability event on the system which transporters can use to facilitate planning for collection, saving the frustration of waiting for cargo,” he commented. He said the ZDOS system and inter-depot operations had favourably reduced the transport turnaround time on the Durban to Johannesburg leg. According to Nel, the system is secure as data cannot be manipulated and the transparency allows ZacPak and its clients to identify potential problems and immediately address them. “There is an element of risk mitigation by minimising the black hole of information,” Nel said.
