Hauliers take the rap for supply chain inefficiencies

ROAD transport operators are often the scapegoat for supply chain inefficiencies over which they have no control. “It’s therefore essential for us to educate our customers in order to help them understand that delays in the ports have a ripple effect and that we suffer the consequences as much as they do,” says International Delivery Company (IDC) managing director Clifford Blackburn. “The transporter is only one leg in the logistics chain and we cannot be held accountable for factors beyond our control, although we do our best to minimise these delays.” Customers exceeding the allocated time frame for loading and unloading containers, and delays at weighbridges are some of the factors that hauliers have to contend with.
