Transnet has graduated
a record 513 trainees
nationally in 2016 through
its Maritime School of
Excellence.
It has committed
R7 billion towards skills
development and training,
with around R60 million
spent since 2012.
According to Transnet
group chief executive
Siyabonga Gama, the
training is aligned with
the company’s 10-year
rolling R340-R380 billion
infrastructure investment
programme.
Maritime schools have also
been established to introduce
high school pupils to the
maritime industry.
Around 80% have been
absorbed into Transnet’s
various marine and port
operations throughout the
country.
