Ghana/SA trade grows almost fourfold in four years

Ghana is now one of South Africa’s top export markets, with exports to the West African country having grown by 22% in 2014.

Daily news site, Ghana Web, cited the South African High Commissioner to Ghana, Lulama Xingwana, as saying that bilateral trade volumes between the two countries had grown almost fourfold in four years – from R2.6 billion in 2010 to R10.8 billion in 2014.

Meanwhile, department of trade and industry (dti) deputy minister Mzwandile Masina said he was encouraged to see African countries keen to work closely with others in order to close trade gaps and open markets for trade and investment opportunities.

"The eagerness expressed by Ghana to foster closer economic cooperation among African countries is an indication that Africa is moving towards integration and that the expansion of trade among African nations holds the key to faster growth and development in the continent," said Masina
