Seen moving an abnormal load of equipment at Durban harbour is a new cargo-handling unit just added to the equipment fleet of machine-moving and rigging company, Lovemore Bros. “The hydraulic boom gantry is a system which we’ve imported, and which is capable of lifting loads of up to 250-metric tonnes to a height of 10-metres,” Bruce Lovemore told FTW. The gantry can also travel horizontally under-load, he added, using a wheel-andtrack system to which track units are attached to extend across the distance being travelled. The cost or availability of a liquid fuel or electricity supply is not a concern, according to Lovemore. “It is driven by an LPG (gas) powered motor,” he said. It can also be completely dismantled and transported anywhere in the country. “It does away with the need for a mobile crane and combined allows us to offer a full-range of loading, off-loading and transporting services using in-house equipment,” he said.
