Garber in acquisitive mood

Twenty eight years since the launch of freight systems bureau Compu-Clearing, chairman Arnold Garber has hinted at further expansion – and acquisition, he believes, is the way to go. “There are many areas that we have not penetrated,” he told FTW. “We are very strong in the international courier market, for example, with all the international courier companies using our systems. But we haven’t yet entered the domestic courier market – and while we have the resources to develop systems suited to that market, we would prefer to acquire good software that already has penetration in the domestic market,” he said. Garber also believes that there are many generic areas that have a place in the freight industry – document management, access control, vehicle tracking, container tracking, parcel tracking and the like – and once again he’s looking to take the acquisition route. “Although we have the resources for these developments, we are racing against time and to acquire small entrepreneurial businesses that have already established themselves in any of these particular areas makes a lot more sense. We believe our excellent cash resources along with our highly rated share, makes an acquisition the logical route to go.”
