From earth movers to moving earth

Moving out-of-gauge cargo is all in a day’s work for Specialized Transport, part of the J&J group, which operates a fleet of trucks with standard flatbed trailers as well as low loaders, including a fleet of tippers. The tippers are being used on construction sites throughout the region. There are 45 x 19cbm/16cbm tippers available to move sand and material for local construction. Abnormal loads are carried as far as the Democratic Republic of Congo to the west, and Tanzania to the north. “We have the knowledge and experience to move heavy loads in Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania and South Africa as well. “The transportation of abnormal loads is governed by different requirements in each country. One has to take into account variable factors such as permissible maximum weight, mass distribution, gross combination weights, width and height,” says managing director Chris Morris. Equipment of up to 70 tons includes mining, manufacturing and agricultural equipment, according to Morris. Specialized Transport operates out of its own yard on the outskirts of Beira. It also has the systems and equipment in house to handle project cargo to the various destinations. Specialized Transport has its own escort teams in order to expedite the transport of loads. CAPTION An abnormal load on its way... bread and butter for Specialized Transport.
