SA operators lodge objections

NAMIBIAN-BASED airfreight operators and handlers will be allowed to continue using Eros Airport on the outskirts of Windhoek following a decision by the Namibian cabinet.
This overrules an earlier decision demanding that all international or regional flights in and out of the country, apart from those of Air Namibia, use Hoseah Kutako International Airport, 40km from the capital.
Now Namibian companies Westair Aviation, Comav and Servisair will continue to use Eros as their base of operations.
While Air Namibia’s passenger services are not affected, South African airlines flying from this country into Namibia have been advised that from February 6 their flights must use Hoseah Kutako Airport. This affects the SA Airlink service between Cape Town and Windhoek and the SA Express schedule between Johannesburg and Windhoek. Both carry a limited amount of cargo, which must now be transported the 40km distance into the city.
The airlines involved, however, are not the major freight carriers into the territory, and depend mainly on passenger
services.
