RAY SMUTS
FINALLY FREE of financial encumbrances, the manacles have been removed and the capesize bulk carrier Orient Alliance, under arrest off Cape Town, has set sail for Britain, her original destination. This was confirmed at week’s end by the deputy sheriff of Cape Town, Johan Engelbrecht. The 152 056 dwt vessel was arrested twice, on May 12 and May 16, after more than 30 creditors submitted claims for monies owed – said to run into a huge sum. Engelbrecht explained once the relevant debts had been settled the attorneys handling the matter issued a release warrant for the attention of the harbour master and the master of the vessel.
