TERRY HUTSON
TWO YEARS running as the world’s top listed shipping company. That’s the proud achievement of South Africa’s Grindrod, adjudged the best in the world for the second year running and heading off 150 international contenders to the title. The big award is the 2006 Marine Money International Listed Shipping Company of the Year, and if that’s a mouthful it’s worth it. It’s not often that South Africa can boast being the best and to walk away with the title of best listed shipping company two years in succession is an added bonus. Marine Money International is America’s largest shipping finance publication and the annual awards function held in June each year is keenly anticipated, attracting more than 500 of the world’s leading shipping fraternity. Grindrod CEO Ivan Clark was on hand to accept the award, along with Alan Olivier, who succeeds him at the end of the year, and Tim McClure, MD of Island View Shipping, which can be credited with much of Grindrod’s success. The rating is based on a number of financial achievements.
