FPT Durban has distinguished itself by becoming the world’s first export terminal to be awarded 360 Quality Code accreditation. This is a new set of international standards for specialised reefer shipping companies and cold stores and their service providers, to ensure the quality of reefer cargo handling. Neville de Klerk, FPT’s general manager in Durban, says the accreditation ensures a good temperature regime, plus less cargo handling. He explains this standard will reduce product damage and ensure accountability and a quality end-result. “What is more, with 360 Quality Code accreditation it is easy to provide exporters and producers with continual product status feedback. Should quality issues arise, these gaps can be closed promptly, further enhancing South African fresh produce standards.” Launched in June, 2005, the 360 Quality Code applies to all perishable and frozen cargoes carried underdeck in specialised reefer vessels. Recently, the award for the first receiving (import) terminal went to Netherlands logistics service provider, Kloosterboer, Vlissingen.
