For the record

A BAD choice of wordage in our story about the new SA Revenue Service (Sars) customs ruling about the examination of stopped air cargo having to be conducted at Johannesburg International Airport (JIA) has led to a mistaken impression of Expeditors’ relationship with customs. We unfortunately chose the wording “resident inspector” – meant to metaphorically convey that the customs examined Expeditors’ off-airport degroupage facility cargoes on the premises, not at the airport. But, MD Richard Mallabone told FTW, certain parties have taken the term literally – and have the wrong perception of his company having a full-time, in-house customs inspector. We apologise for this misapprehension, and can assure readers that Expeditors shares the same problems as other freight forwarders in having to take any other air cargo under query by customs to the JIA for examination.
