Fire protection for the decanting of petroleum products at the tanker berth will be upgraded. This will be made possible through the construction of control towers and three 10ml steel towers that will deliver 3600l/min of a water and foam mixture. “The upgrade will provide a much more efficient and safer operation for the oil companies as well as the NPA fire fighting department” says Nyaumwe. The port will also facilitate greater customer care service. A one-stop-shop customer service centre will be opened in its administrative building. Here customers will be able to do financial transactions and tariff quotations while port stakeholders will have the ability to submit their tender documentation and track vessels at the site. Nyaumwe says that staff will use the latest technology and real-time information to assist customers.
