‘Find something you truly believe in’

Born: Port Elizabeth. Educated: Matriculated in PE and learnt through the school of life. First job: Secretary. Freight industry start: Through my ex husband who was involved in the freight industry. It has become a way of life for me over the past 32 years. I am totally dedicated to the freight industry and all the challenges it brings on a daily basis. Male dominated: The Freight industry has opened its doors wide to women and in our company we have a typical example – a female MD. Challenges specific to women in the industry: I do not think there are any challenges. If you are capable of running a company or a department, you will be taken into consideration, and it always takes a woman to complete the task. (Tongue in cheek). Influential person in shaping your career: There have been a number of people who have crossed my path during my early years in the freight industry and assisted me when women were ‘unheard’ of in this industry, but again I must thank Thys for pushing me and teaching me the fundamentals. Best personal/professional achievement: Being the first woman in both clearing and forwarding and ships agency to go out and sell. Today it is truly a female dominance out there and perhaps I am a bit presumptuous to think that I have paved the way for all those that have followed after me. Recipe for success: Find something you truly believe in and the passion will follow. My passion is Sebenza and I am very fortunate to have been part of this company for the past 11 years. Business icon: All those who got to the top through fair and hard work. Meaningful quote: Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work. Outside interests: My four grandchildren whom I have been blessed with. They are the most amazing and phenomenal kids.
