KEVIN MAYHEW ZAMBIA’S MINISTRY of Finance and National Planning has released funds for the construction of various infrastructure developments at two main border points – Chirundu and Katima Mulilo. The freight terminal at Chirundu has been allocated K3 billion along with K2bn and K500m for the passenger control building and sewage disposal system respectively. Road works maintenance was allocated K500m while K200m will go towards water and sanitation upgrades in the area. At Katima Mulilo K1.2bn will go towards the construction of border facilities in the Sesheke district. In a recent statement, the Ministry said it was in a hurry to ensure that facilities in the two areas were worked on to facilitate freight and passenger transportation. In total it is a commitment of about K7.4bn.
