Express service thrives

THE LAUNCH by Payfreight Consolidations of an express containerised consolidation service by road to Lusaka, Zambia in June this year has taken off exceptionally well, says MD Kym Robson from her Alrode, Gauteng base “With an average transit time of five days from despatch in Johannesburg to offloading in Lusaka, the service has attracted positive response from all our clients in Zambia,” she says. “This type of transit time, for full consolidations at our normal road freight rate is unheard of.” Robson believes there will always be a market for the consolidator on any route in southern Africa. “The consolidator bridges the gap between part loads and full loads. However the logistics involved in consolidating one load of 20 entries as opposed to a full load of one entry is hugely different, requiring experienced and proactive staff – probably our most treasured asset.”
