Etihad Airways will begin operating its Boeing 787s on the Johannesburg route from November this year and a further four destinations during 2016.
With a phased delivery over a seven-month period, beginning May 2016, the new 299-seat Dreamliners will be deployed as replacements for existing aircraft on daily scheduled services to Johannesburg, Perth, Shanghai, Istanbul and Dusseldorf from the airline’s Abu Dhabi hub.
Etihad Airways already operates five 787s, serving Brisbane, Washington, Singapore and Zurich from Abu Dhabi.
The Johannesburg route, currently operated by an Airbus A330, will be Etihad Airways’ first 787 service into Africa.
Beginning May this year, the new 787 Dreamliners will replace existing aircraft on the airline’s Johannesburg, Perth, Shanghai, Istanbul and Dusseldorf routes.
