EMIRATES WILL expand its Middle East network with the addition of two flights a week to Kuwait and Damascus and a double daily frequency to Beirut. The scheduled enhancements will bring it's Middle East presence to 155 weekly flights serving 12 gateways. From March 25 the airline will introduce an additional flight to Kuwait every Sunday and Monday using the Airbus A330-200 aircraft. From May 1 it will add an extra flight every Tuesday and Wednesday to the Syrian capital, Damascus. The extra flights will introduce more than 30 tonnes of cargo capacity per week in each direction. From March 25, the airline will offer a choice of two flights a day to Beirut. The additional Monday flight will be operated by an Airbus A330-200. Hamad Obaidalla, senior vice president commercial operations, Gulf, Middle East & Iran commented: “The Middle East, emboldened by a tourism boom and rapid economic development, is posting one of the strongest growth rates in air travel. According to Airports Council International (ACI), cargo traffic growth stands at 5.4%, second only to growth in Asia Pacific.”
