THIS MONTH sees the launch of a fifth frequency on the SA – Cairo route by Egyptair. And although the development is passenger-driven, it adds welcome freight capacity, says Gerd von Mansberg, managing director of GSA The Cargo Connection. The airline’s long-term vision is to offer a daily service on the route by next year, he added. Passenger figures are buoyant, says Von Mansberg, and cargo volumes have maintained a steady flow. “We’re moving a lot of flowers and perishables and notice that importers are beginning to buy more from South Africa general cargo-wise.”
