EDI solution covers full spectrum of industry needs

Forwarding and customs clearing system specialists Core Freight Systems have seen an evolution in their customers’ needs – from the basic production of a bill of entry to a system that allows them to manage their total operation. “By taking advantage of modern technology they’re able to work smarter to get through the workload, rather than just harder,” says Leslie Matthew, Core Freight’s Durban-based representative. “The solution obviously needs to be delivered in a costeffective manner, including support as required. And this is the dynamic scenario we try to address though the CoreFreight system.” The company has a broad client base, from local independent operations and national agencies to branches of multi-national brands. “While this diversity brings its challenges it certainly also provides the benefit of being able to learn from the different perspectives of each type of business operator, and to apply that knowledge in addressing the needs of each of our individual clients,” says Matthew. “One of the aspects we have found attractive to our clients is the ability to operate the system on a hosted environment. This means that, provided the operator has access to the internet, he can work on the CoreFreight application, either framing a bill of entry or simply checking on the status of a customs release from any location. “Adding further users, or even expanding the branch network as the business grows is also easy, making it an ideal platform for new businesses starting out in the industry. The windowsbased presentation has a logical process-flow which facilitates the training of new users and the comprehensive functionality provides the ability to support all aspects of the forwarding and clearing activity. CoreFreight Helpdesk staff are able to log on to a user’s session remotely and provide assistance as required.” The work in Durban is however not restricted to forwarding and clearing activity. “We have clients using CoreFreight for the processing of excise entries via EDI in compliance with Sars procedures and a number of ship’s agency operators who are prepared for the ACM messaging required by Customs.” CAPTION Leslie Matthew … ‘ideal platform for new businesses.’
