ECDC makes Wakeford ‘official’

Leonard Neill KEVIN WAKEFORD, the former chief executive of SA Chamber of Business, has been officially appointed chief executive of the Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC), effective since April 1. Wakeford had been acting chief executive for the past four months, following the suspension of former chief Mcebisi Jonas last September. Jonas resigned from ECDC last month. “I now have to reposition the corporation both for relevancy and to shed itself of non-core assets,” said Wakeford. “The role of the ECDC is not to be custodian of assets but to work in the interests of developments in the province.” Prior to Wakeford’s appointment as ECDC acting CEO, the corporation was involved in investigations connected with alleged irregular dealings. A number of senior management personnel were suspended at the time.
