RAY SMUTS THE EUROPEAN Commission has cleared an application by NYK Reefers and LauritzenCool to merge their reefer activities. NYK LauritzenCool A.B. is the name of the new company - owned equally by NYK Reeefers and J Lauritzen - parent company of LauritzenCool, which will field a combined fleet of more than 70 specialised reefer vessels, with strong representation in the South African export fruit sector. Headquarters for the fledgling company is LauritzenCool’s former HQ in Stockholm while NYK Reefers’London operation will serve as branch office. The get-together is a follow-on to a strategic co-operation vessel sharing agreement established last year.
