THE NEW multi-purpose service between SA and the East Coast of Africa - operated by Malaysian Line, Brooklands Maritime Services - is due to get underway, as promised, next week.
According to Captain Brian Hawkins, managing director of SA general agents, Sea Diamond Maritime, the first vessel in the three-week service is currently being repositioned via a discharge call in Zanzibar and is due to reach Durban on January 23-25.
We're ready for kick-off in the last week of this month, he told FTW, and we expect this to be a successful service.
Ports of call for the two 175 TEU (twenty foot equivalent unit) tween-deckers are Durban, Beira, Dar es Salaam, Mombasa and return, with other ports, like Maputo and Nacala, on inducement.
