Tariff Amendments – 05 October 2007 Tariff Applications – Response Due A review of the increase in the rate of customs duty on salmon and other fish. In the ITAC Report No.122, it was recommended that the tariff structure for salmon be reviewed after 2 years in order to determine the sustainability of aquaculture in SACU. Response due by 26 October 2007. No Trade Remedy Amendments – 05 October 2007 Trade Remedy Applications – Response Due Initiation of a sunset review of the anti-dumping duties on stranded wire, ropes and cables originating in or Imported from the People’s Republic of China, Germany, Korea (South Korea) and the United Kingdom. Initiation of a sunset review of the countervailing duties on stranded wire, ropes and cables originating in or imported from India. Response due by 11 October 2007. No Rule Amendments – 05 October 2007 2nd ATI Customs and Excise Tariff Policy Training The African Tax Institute (ATI) at the University of Pretoria will, from October 30- 31, 2007, host a Customs & Excise Tariff Policy workshop. The workshop will focus on tariff applications, trade remedy applications, and import and export permit applications in the Southern African Customs Union (SACU), essentially the customs and excise tariff policy recommended by the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC). The workshop will be addressed by experts in this field of specialisation, as well as senior officials from ITAC. Workshop on EU & Africa On October 31, 2007, the Centre for European Studies, University of Johannesburg, and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation will host a workshop on the European Union and Africa – challenges and strategies for the future.
