Crime Stop operation suggested THE THEFT of containers is a dangerous game - Squeal, and you're dead, is the message.
The criminal gangs who play this game are in deadly earnest.
Anyone who talks could die.
This is not sensationalist journalism.
FTW has just had a discussion with someone in the forwarding industry where talk of murder was heard.
Threats to life and limb have just been made to an obviously unnamed senior party in the industry who accidentally discovered evidence of the activities of a major criminal syndicate involved in large-scale theft of containers of import goods.
But the gang found out he knew, and this party was told: We know who you are, where you and work, who your wife is, and where your children go to school. One word out of you, and somebody dies. And our party knows they meant it.
The question is what would you do? One of the options suggested by an industry source is a Customs Crime Stop operation.
A toll-free number - 24 hours a day; a reward system to encourage squealers; and a full investigative team to follow it all up could work.
What do you think?
