Asia-Bound cargo from Johannesburg has grown by more than 50% compared with the first six months of 1995 according to Cathay Pacific regional cargo executive Kenneth Laires. He says the rand's depreciation may have helped to boost exports to the Far East.
Internationally Cathay's freight revenue went up 4,8% to 1,56-billion for the six months to end June. Poor load factors to Europe and the US, indicative of the lingering effects of recession in both of these key international markets, were behind the relatively slow first six months.
