SAME-DAY delivery of airfreight consignments to consignees is the aim of most freight forwarders and their clients. But for Transatlantic Airfreight (SA) it's the norm.

Our philosophy is to provide a same-day service, airfreight manager Colin Jacobs told FTW. We preclear by fax to make it possible, and so far have achieved an 80% success rate.

We also make sure that the documents and invoices are delivered with the consignment so that it can be costed immediately. Transatlantic established its airfreight arm five months ago under the management of Jacobs whose ten years experience in the industry includes stints with Continental Freight Services, Profreight and Allworld Shipping.

While the objective is to strive for a balance between import and export flow, current trends have favoured imports and Jacobs sees little chance of this changing in the near future.
