The first shipping line to publish its latest shipping schedules on Cargo Info Africa is the multi-purpose operator MACS.

MACS went live this week with its northbound and southbound schedules on the Internet service developed specifically for the Southern African freight community.

The schedules are the living part of a larger database of information on MACS which will continue to be expanded in the future.

The Hamburg-based line was keen to be involved in the Cargo Info project in the belief that its clients will have access to more reliable information and that it will reduce time-consuming telephone calls. Prospective clients with whom the line is not in regular contact will also now have access to its latest schedules.

An electronic message facility is linked directly to its Johannesburg regional office.

Cargo Info is unique to the region and almost a dozen shipping lines are close to mantaining up-to-date schedules on the system.

Started last month, the major shippers and forwarding agents have been the first to plug into the free service.
