Dearth of skills a global issue

AN INABILITY to attract and maintain skilled workers in the industry is a challenge facing South Africa and the rest of the world. “We’re not seeing enough skilled professionals coming through the ranks to maintain the current requirement,” says Maersk South Africa national sales director Mark Cairns. “There’s a pressing need to grow the expertise in the industry in the short to medium term, and it’s one of the challenges we may face 4-5 years down the line as the expected growth in volumes gains further momentum.”
