CT/Pretoria flights launched

Airlink Cargo has added three f lights a day between Wonderboom Airport in Pretoria and Cape Town International Airport to its itinerary. “The service will be available from the third quarter of this year, providing a more convenient, direct route for trade between the two cities,” said Lebohang Moya, sales and marketing assistant at Airlink Cargo. She told FTW that the company had noticed that high-value commodities were increasingly being shipped via airfreight in conjunction with the express courier business. “Furthermore, critical cargo such as medical samples and pharma goods are being shipped express by air,” said Moya. She commented that in response to the increased demand, Airlink Cargo now provided dedicated temperature control facilities. “We operate in an increasingly competitive environment and by continuously providing value-added services, such as the temperature control facilities, we try to maintain our competitive edge,” said Moya. She noted that infrastructure challenges were still the biggest obstacles to expansion into Africa but added that ongoing economic growth on the continent would spur growth in the express courier segment in the medium- to long-term. “In many parts of the world the express cargo/ courier industry has, to some extent, become stagnant but in Africa – due to growth in certain markets – we have noticed increased competition,” Moya pointed out. This has brought down prices “significantly”, she added.
