Cape Town-based Y2K Customs Academy has embarked on a major expansion drive which has seen the recent opening of a new campus in Johannesburg. According to director Philani Ncube this is the first of several new campuses planned by the training consultancy. “With Johannesburg being the business centre for Africa it made sense to open a campus in the city,” he told FTW. “It is an appropriate destination as we look to grow our business. Our expansion drive however includes plans to open a campus in Durban but also in other countries in Africa.” In a global marketplace, he said, it was essential that the company extended its wings beyond South Africa. “Areas already targeted in the next five years include the Great Lakes region, the Republic of Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola.” According to Ncube, plans for expansion have been in the pipeline for some years. "We believe we have a big contribution to make in skills development in the freight forwarding, customs clearing and international trade industry.” According to Ncube, the company is possibly the only black South African-owned training institution in the industry, with all the necessary accreditations.
