CT port expansion plans

Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) is continuing feasibility studies into the development of the Culemborg site, maintaining that while difficult it remained the most obvious means of expanding port capacity in Cape Town. The 159-hectare site, owned by Transnet and in close proximity to the Port of Cape Town, would allow for the development of a logistics park delivering essential back of port services, said Lindokuhle Mkhize, TNPA manager: port planning and development. Mkhize told FTW the TNPA was in discussion with the City of Cape Town to look at developing the site as expansion of the Cape Town Port was essential. “Reclaiming land from the sea – the other available option – is going to be too difficult and costly.
