RAY SMUTS MAJOR INVESTMENT of more than R500 million has been earmarked for upgrading multiple award-winning Cape Town International Airport well ahead of the 2010 Soccer World Cup. Addressing a breakfast audience in Cape Town last week, Transport Minister Jeff Radebe made clear his department was engaged in much preparation to cater for the transport needs of this world-class event which will bring thousands of spectators to the country. He said the Airports Company of South Africa was planning to build a new R315 million domestic terminal at Cape Town International, scheduled for completion by 2006. Over and above that, additional aprons costing R100 million will be in place by 2010, parking costing R125 million has been added to the existing development plan, while more rental car parking boils down to a further investment of R10 million.
