'Continent must work as one'

To sustain its competitive advantages, South Africa – a “first-world economy in a thirdworld wrapper” – needs to shed its politically driven economy and put its world-class corporate structures in the driver’s seat. “Compared to Africa as a whole, South Africa has a highly sophisticated economy,” said the CEO of Frontier Advisory, Dr Martin Davies recently. “Furthermore, rather than viewing other emerging market countries as our competitors, we should embrace them as partners to create new revenue streams on the African continent,” said Davies.
