THE POSSIBILITY of a conflict of interest has resulted in Seaclad Maritime having reluctantly to relinquish its Torm Line agency, Alan Schoeman of Seaclad informed FTW last week. (See story on Pg 3)
Since taking on the agency for the Pan Africa Line (PAL) last year, Schoeman said it had become apparent that difficulties could arise for two companies servicing the same routes - South Africa to West Africa.
This is a purely commercial decision. We have enjoyed an excellent relationship with Torm for many years and it is with a great sense of reluctance that we had to come to this decision, he said.
PAL introduced a monthly sailing out of Durban and Cape Town in October last year and since then things have progressed very satisfactorily, said Schoeman.
The latest vessel to be chartered in is the Inyathi, which will call Durban and Cape Town for ports within the Walvis Bay Conakry range. PAL also provides a link service between the US Gulf and West Africa, as well as from the North West Continent to West Africa.
