Conference to focus on ESG data management

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport: South Africa (CILTSA) is tackling the growing challenge of managing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) data at its upcoming conference.

The one-day conference, themed “From Data to Decisions: Utilising ESG Data for Smarter Business Strategies”, takes place at the Fairway Hotel in Johannesburg on 25 July. The event aims to help business leaders navigate the complex world of ESG metrics and unlock their strategic potential.

CILTSA president Elvin Harris said ESG measures are becoming a vital part of business operations for small, medium and large organisations.

“With the rapid expansion of sustainability, legal obligations and regulations plus heightened expectations from investors, employees, consumers and society, it is vital that all businesses get to grips with ESG reporting now. In this ever-changing landscape, data is king,” Harris said.

“Robust ESG data collection, analysis and reporting are essential for navigating complex regulations, demonstrating transparency, and building trust with stakeholders. Businesses that can leverage ESG data effectively will be well-positioned to make informed decisions, mitigate risks, and capitalise on new opportunities in an uncertain future.”

The CILTSA conference will explore the critical role data plays in developing and implementing effective ESG strategies, equipping delegates to translate data into insights that can be put into practice.

Key topics on the draft agenda include:

• How to get the right ESG data for your business

• Embracing international standards as a key component of ESG credibility

• How organisations are using data to drive ESG performance

The importance of robust ESG data has been underscored by recent statistics. In 2023, an Accenture report highlighted that 83% of investors integrate ESG factors into their investment decisions. A McKinsey study found that companies with strong ESG performance outperform their peers on multiple financial metrics.
