Cold storage facility caters for diversified product range

Table Bay Cold Storage has expanded and diversified its temperature-controlled warehousing and logistics services and now accommodates a wide range of products – from deciduous fruit, beverages and vegetables to potatoes, fish, poultry, eggs and dairy. Established in 1946 to serve the cold storage and logistics needs of parent company, The Botswana Meat Commission, it was the first Cape-based cold store to obtain EU approval for the handling, storage and export of meat destined for EU countries. “To do so, the facilities comply with all stringent requirements as an export cold store to the EU, following strict HCCP protocols throughout the cold chain and are PPECB and NRCS certified,” said general manager Dieter Veening. “As a vital link in maintaining the temperature control chain, today we can manage customers’ diverse export and import consignments, guaranteeing product shelf life across all product types. Our bonded and duty paid facilities have been expanded to offer over 10 000 sqm of capacity with 10 dual-function, specially racked (chilled and frozen) rooms and blast freezing facilities. “Enclosed shipping and receiving docks protect product during the handling, storage and staging processes,” he told FTW. The company also offers undercover dry cargo storage and handling facilities that provide optimal ambient temperatures, he added. “Our in-house Table Bay Shipping division covers all aspects of shipping, clearing and forwarding for import and export products. We have also developed partnerships with transportation companies that enable us to handle our customers’ long- and shorthaul logistics needs.” Customers also have access to carton traceability from origin through containerisation to storage, order assembly and delivery, says operating manager Andre Solomon.
