With the motor industry relying on the Eastern Cape as a primary access point for its goods, Compu-Clearing has many interfaces in place for shippers and agents serving the industry, says Ruan Fourie, a member of the company’s quality control team. “We assist in streamlining clearance through Sars – and with South Africa becoming an increasingly important port into Africa, our cloudbased solutions allow for easy use in any city in South and sub-Saharan Africa,” he told FTW. “The seven commercial ports in the country each handle different aspects of trade, with the Eastern Cape’s 800km of coastline handling containers, high value products, bulk and cars. “Although a large amount of freight is destined for South Africa, much of it is transshipped into the rest of Africa. The Compu- Clearing system is fully integrated into the Asycuda systems in the BLNS countries (Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland) so that a single capture of a BoE can feed both sides of the border,” he said. Compu-Clearing currently has many courier companies using the Asycuda interface and deriving major value from the system, he added. “In an effort to improve our systems and services, we continuously add functions not just for clients in a specific region but all over the country.” Shortterm future changes could include enhancements of the ACM System for road freight and more integration between third party software and the Compu-Clearing system, he added.
