Chinese economic slump hits airfreight volumes

The faltering Chinese economy has impacted the usual mid-year upswing in the world airfreight market said market data specialist WorldACD in its latest report for July 2015.

July was flat with only 0.7% volume growth – the lowest of any month this year. The Netherlands-based analyst commented that in previous years, July volumes had been significantly better  than June, but not this year.

Africa was the fastest growing region –  up 6.2% in volume thanks to increased business to the Middle East and South Asia (Mesa) region.

Europe saw the second highest volume increase (2.7%), mainly fuelled by growth to destinations in Asia Pacific other than China.
